1st On-line PEDIA CARDIO SPECIALTY BOARD EXAMS 2020

The Specialty Board of Pediatric Cardiology (SBPC) conducted  its first ever on-line virtual specialty examinations last October 22 – 23 , 2020.  The SBPC for 2019 – 2020 is composed of DR. NINFA J. VILLANUEVA as Chair, and DR. JONAS JOSE D. DEL ROSARIO, DR. EDEN D. LATOSA, DR. MARIA CONCEPCION C. SISON and DR. MARIA CORAZON A. ESTEVANEZ, as Members. Presently, there are only two (2) accredited training programs in Pediatric Cardiology by the Philippine College of Cardiology (PCC): Philippine Heart Center (PHC) and University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

There were initially thirteen (13) applicants for the examinations which was first scheduled  to be conducted at the PHA Office last April , 2020,  however was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.  Due to difficulties to conduct the examinations face-to-face, the SBPC finally decided to push through with the on-line virtual examinations with the approval of the Philippine College of Cardiology and the Philippine Heart Association.

The nine (9) examinees who finally took the written exams passed. However only eight (8) successfully passed the practical examinations. 

The successful examinees were: DR. GERARDINE C. CASI (UP-PGH), DR. ELUGEVINA C. DOMINGO (PHC), DR. CLAUDIO Q. GAYETA, JR. (PHC), DR. MARICEL JANICE G. DE GUZMAN (PHC), DR. KRISTINE ANNE F. PAGUNTALAN (PHC), DR. CATHLEEN FAYE RECAÑA-LU (UP-PGH), DR. ELISSA DYANN B. SORIANO (PHC) and DR. VINCENT M. TULIO, JR. (PHC). 

They were also virtually inducted as REGULAR MEMBERS of the Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology (PSPC) during the  society’s Annual General Assembly last October 30, 2020 and as DIPLOMATES of the PCC last January 14, 2021.
