PSPC Webinars in AUGUST

The Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology conducted three (3) webinars for the month of August.

The 8th PSPC webinar held last August 6, 2020 was on “GOOD PRESCRIBING IN PEDIATRIC HEART FAILURE” with DR. MARIA CONCEPCION C. SISON, as speaker. Dr. Sison is a Fellow of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) and the Philippine College of Cardiology (PCC) and an Associate Member of the Philippine Society of Experimental & Clinical Pharmacology. She is a member of the Specialty Board of Pediatric Cardiology and is the current Secretary of the Philippine Foundation for the Prevention and Control of Rheumatic Fever & Rheumatic Heart Disease. She is likewise an Associate Professor 7 in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the UP College of Medicine at PGH. In her talk, Dr. Sison gave the steps in rational prescribing which include defining the patient’s problem (heart failure), specifying the therapeutic objective and verifying the suitability of the treatment to the patient, with consideration of the cost of the drug. DR. ANDREA OREL S. VALLE, a Pediatric Cardiologist from UP-PGH acted a emcee and moderator. There were 591 participants.

The 9th PSPC webinar conducted last August 13, 2020 was on “INTERIM GUIDELINES IN PEDIATRIC CARDIAC CATHETERIZATIONS AND INTERVENTIONS IN COVID TIMES” with DR. JUAN G. REGANION as main speaker. There were three reactors: DR. DEXTER D. CHENG, DR. RUDY A. AMATONG and DR. SHELDON P. PARAGAS. The webinar was moderated by a young Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist DR. BABIE CATHERINE CAUSAPIN from the Philippine Heart Center..

PSPC Secretary Dr. Reganion is a Fellow of the PPS, PCC, and Philippine Society of Cardiovascular Catheterization and Intervention, Inc. (PSCCI) and an Interventional Fellow of the PSCCI. He is also currently Head, Division of Pediatric Invasive Cardiology of the Philippine Heart Center and a Director, Board of Trustees of the Philippine Society of Cardiovascular Catheterization & Intervention, Inc. After Dr. Reganion’s talk on the current interim guidelines during this pandemic, the reactors shared their current practices in their respective institutions – Dr. Cheng in Quezon City, Dr. Amatong in Cebu City and Dr. Paragas in Davao City. There were 672 participants.

Dr. Cheng is a Fellow of the PPS, PCC, PSCCI and an Interventional Fellow of the PSCCI. He is the Head of the Section of Pediatric Cardiology at the Medical City and the Congenital Invasive Laboratory at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Amatong is a Fellow of the PPS and PCC and the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics of Cebu Institute of Medicine and Cebu Velez General Hospital. Dr. Paragas is a Fellow of the PPS, PCC and the PSCCI and is the current President of the PPS Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter. He is likewise the Training Officer of Section of Pediatric Cardiology of the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The 10th PSPC webinar on “KAWASAKI DISEASE (KD) AND MULTISYSTEM INFLAMMATORY SYNDROME IN CHILDREN (MIS-C) IN COVID 19 TIMES” was held last August 27, 2020 with DR. MARIA RONELLA FRANCISCO-MALLARI and DR. REGENTE I. LAPAK as speakers. PSPC Board Member DR. MARTHASOCORRO M. SANTIAGO was the moderator. There were 974 participants.

PSPC Treasurer Dr. Francisco-Mallari is a Fellow of the PPS, PCC, Philippine Society of Ecchocardiography (PSE) and Asean Congress of Cardiology. She talked on the epidemiology, clinical manifestations and laboratory work-ups of children with KD and MIS-C. PSPC Board Member Dr. Lapak is a Fellow of the PPS, PCC and PSE. He talked on the complications, natural history and treatment of KD and MIS-C.
