JULY Webinars

For the month of July, the Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology (PSPC) conducted two webinars.

The 6th PSPC webinar held last July 23, 2020 was on “PEDIATRIC METABOLIC SYNDROME IN COVID TIMES- HEART CONCERNS AND METABOLIC ISSUES”. The webinar focused on the rising problem of overweight and obesity among children which is part of Metabolic Syndrome. There were two speakers: DR. ANNA MARIE EDVINA SANTOS-CABAERO, a Pediatric Cardiologist from Cebu City and DR. ELEONOR C. DU, a Pediatric Endocrinologist from Davao City. DR. MA. ROSARIO P. BERNAL, a Pediatric Cardiologist from Dagupan in Pangasinan acted as Emcee-Moderator. There were 744 participants.

A Past President of the Philippine Heart Association – Cebu Chapter, Dr. Cabaero is a Fellow of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS), the Philippine College of Cardiology (PCC) and the Philippine Society of Echocardiography (PSE) and is currently Chair, Specialty Board of Examiners for Pediatrics of the PSE. In her talk, Dr. Cabaero talked about consequences in the cardiovascular system of metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Du is currently the President of the Philippine Society of Pediatric Metabolism and Endocrinology (PSPME) and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics in Southern Philippines Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the PPS and the PSPME, and a member of Diabetes Philippines, Asia Pacific Pediatric Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. She talked on the metabolic aspects of Metabolic Syndrome in children.

The 7th PSPC webinar held last July 30 was on “CONTINUING AND CATCH-UP VACCINES FOR CARDIAC PATIENTS DURING COVID” with DR. FATIMA GIMENEZ as speaker. Dr. Gimenez is a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist who is a Fellow of the PPS and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP), of which she is the current Vice-President. She talked about the updates of the immunization program in our country especially for high-risk patients which include cardiac patients. Dr. Gimenez gladly answered the many questions posed to her during the open forum moderated by PSPC Immediate Past President DR. MA. CORAZON A. ESTEVANEZ. There were 543 participants.
