PCoW 3 in Butuan – another PSPC milestone!
The Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology had its 3rd PEDIA CARDIO IN WHEELS (PCoW) in last January 26, 2020 at the Dottie’s Place Hotel, Butuan City. The one-day postgraduate course was organized in cooperation with the Community Pediatrics Society of the Philippines (CPSB) CARAGA Chapter headed by its dynamic President DR. AGNES ANDANAR, a practicing pediatrician in Surigao City and DR. MAE OCO-MATEOS, a practicing Pediatric Intensivist in Butuan City.
The evening before the event, there was a welcome dinner and orientation meeting of the PSPC members and CPSP Officers at the Embassy Hotel in Butuan City.
As with previous PCoWs, the lecturers consisted of local PSPC members DR. JOANNA Z. JAVA (host in Butuan City) and nearby cities and provinces- DR. JOSE MELVIN C. COSEP (Surigao City), DR. MARIA ROWENA SANCHEZ (Cagayan de Oro City), DR. JOSEPHINE S. DE LA CERNA (CDO), DR. JAMES HERMINIO G. SALON (CDO), DR. SHELDON P. PARAGAS (Davao City), DR. JOCELYN T. MANTILLA (Davao City) and PSPC President DR. NINFA J. VILLANUEVA (Davao City). DR. ZENNY A. PELI (Davao City) was the moderator in the morning session while DR. THERESE B. LUMICAO was the moderator during the luncheon symposium. Other speakers who came from Manila included PSPC officers DR. REGENTE I. LAPAK (Board of Director), DR. MARTHA SOCORRO M. SANTIAGO (Board of Director) and DR. MA. BERNADETTE A. AZCUETA (Vice-President) together with DR. ANDREA OREL S. VALLE and MS. AISA RAYMUNDO (PSPC Secretariat). DR. DR. JUAN REGANION (Secretary) was the master of ceremonies and moderator for the afternoon session.
An additional feature of PCoW 3 is an overview of common congenital heart diseases which included cyanotic lesions, acyanotic shunt lesions and obstructive diseases.

There was a total of 141 participants which included pediatricians, general practitioners, family medicine physicians, nurses from all over CARAGA region and neighboring areas. The guests and speakers felt well-appreciated by the presence of most of the participants up to the last lecture. PCoW 3 was granted the following CME units: 5 PRC, 15 PHA, 7 PMA, 10 PAFP Category 2 and 18 PPS.
After the scientific activity, the PSPC officers and members attended the Sunday mass at the Sto. Niño Shrine (for thanksgiving) before they had a farewell dinner/celebration and meeting at the Lime and Zest Kitchen of the Watergate Hotel.
