PSPC holds 2nd Interesting CASE REPORT CONTEST

The 2nd PSPC Interesting Pedicatric Cardiology Case Report Contest will be held on May 23, 2017.  This contest was started last year during the presidency of Dr. Eden Latosa and was chaired by Dr. Bernadette Azcueta.  This scientific activity aims to increase awareness of heart diseases in children (both congenital and acquired) including its manifestations, diagnostic and therapeutic management and prognosis and to encourage interest in the field of Pediatric cardiology among students and residents.

This contest to all Pediatric Residents-in-training in all accredited hospitals of the Philippine Pediatric Society.  The scores of the case reports were pre-judged based on their written reports which comprised 70% with the remaining 30% for either their oral or poster presentations.

The finalists for the oral presentation are the following:

  1. Keight Arren R. Anacan (East Avenue Medical Center): “A Case of Left Ventricular Aneurysm Secondary to Disseminated Staphylococcal Infection”

 

  1. Alexa Rae M. Del Fierro (Davao Doctors Hospital): “A Case Report of a Common Atrium in a Filipino Neonate with Ellis-Van-Creveld Syndrome

 

  1. Jolise Silva (Philippine Childrens Medical Center): “Ëbstein’s Anomaly with Congenital Rubella Syndrome in a Neonate”

 

  1. Daffe Marielle Roldan-Morales (Southern Philippines Medical Center): “A Case of Pediatric Takayasu Arteritis and Rheumatic Heart Disease in a 12 year old”

 

  1. Karmela Graca Marquez (FEU-NRMF): “If All Else Fails” Refractory Kawasaki Disease

 

  1. Carmichelle C. Flores (Adventist Medical Center Manila): “Fifty Shades of Blue”

 

The finalists for the poster presentation are the following:

  1. Girly D. Sobrepena (Quezon City General Hospital): “A Double Sided Heart”- Double Outlet Right Ventricle, Malposed Great Arteries with Ventricular Septal Defect”

 

  1. Melanie Lopez, MD (National Childrens Hospital): Too much for One Heart”

 

  1. Elmer Smith E. Palonpon (Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital): “A Case Report on Constrictive Pericarditis secondary to Bacterial & Tuberculosis Pericarditis”

    

The Board of Judges for this year’s contest are: Dr. Regente I. Lapak (Chair), Dr. Edison Ty and Dr. Maria Theresa Claudio Rosqueta.  The Over-all coordinator is Dr. Ninfa J. Villanueva (PSPC Secretary).
